August 30 - The Oregon Rails Study has been completed.  The study is available on the Rail Division website at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/RAIL/Forms_Publications.shtml.  The study will serve as the basis for an updated Oregon Rail Plan, a federally-required statewide freight and passenger rail strategy, and contribute to other state, regional and local planning efforts.  With this study, policy makers at all levels will have information to identify the rail improvements critical for economic development, to assess the potential benefits and to make strategic investments for Oregon.

August 30 -  Join Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy and members of the community in celebrating the substantial completion of the new bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Delta Highway and through Delta Ponds.  Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11 a.m.

August 10 - The Franklin Boulevard Project will construct modern urban standards improvements on the old Hwy 99 alignment in Glenwood called Franklin Boulevard between downtown Springfield,  and the University of Oregon and downtown Eugene. More information on the project is available at the City of Springfield's website.

August 10
- The City of Eugene is receiving national attention for including an assessment of potential public health benefits in its upcoming Climate & Energy Action Plan (CEAP).  Earlier this year, the City partnered with Upstream Public Health on the first ever Health Impact Assessment (HIA) conducted on a local Climate Action Plan.  The report found that many of the transportation-related objectives in the Plan are likely to impact the public’s health.  Policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions also result in increased physical activity, better air quality, and fewer vehicle crashes.  These changes lead to reduced rates of chronic disease and mortality, reduced respiratory illness, and reduced injuries and fatalities from vehicle collisions. The full report is available online at www.upstreampublichealth.org.  More information on the CEAP is available at http://www.sustaineugene.com/eugeneclimate/

Ongoing - Find out more about construction projects in the area by tuning in to the KeepUsMoving.info websiteKeepUsMoving.info highlights large transportation projects and events that are being constructed and have a large potential impact on the Eugene-Springfield Metro Area, Oregon. The website provides information on anticipated congestion and available transportation options.

Ongoing - Commuter Solutions, the region's transportation demand management and transportation options organization, is providing free services to parents looking for convenient and safe ways for their kids to travel to and from school.  Contact Lisa VanWinkle at 541-682-6212 for more information.
